2026 - Church of Saint-François de Molitor

Project Type

Photo Essay

Date

September 2025

Architect

Jean-Marie Duthilleul

Location

Paris, France

Photographed recently in Paris, Saint-François de Molitor is one of the city’s younger churches. ·

Completed in 2005, it replaced a modest wartime chapel that had become too small for its growing parish. Designed by Jean-Marie Duthilleul and Corinne Callies, it is an unexpectedly intimate work from an architect better known for major railway stations, including Wuhan.

The scale feels right, the materials restrained and the light soft. Nothing demands attention. You enter, sit down and somehow settle into the space without having to adjust to it.

We often celebrate architecture for being radical, experimental or new. Yet most of the time, perhaps we need more buildings like this: quiet, generous and simply good to inhabit.

It is not far from Le Corbusier’s Villa La Roche and studio apartment. Worth dropping in if you are nearby.
