2024 - Pagodas of Digital Ruins
Project Type
Art Project
Date
October, 2024
Location
Various
This photographic series explores the transformation of architectural images into digital symbols, questioning how endless reproduction through digital media detaches buildings from their original meaning and reality.
Inspired by Jean Baudrillard’s theory of simulacra, the project manipulates architectural photographs into towering, pagoda-like forms, representing digital ruins—structures that, while visually intact, have lost their essence through overexposure.
The core question posed by the series is: How does the digital consumption of architectural images, particularly in the age of social media, erode the cultural and spatial significance of real buildings?
These manipulated towers stand as monuments to this loss, critiquing the superficiality of modern architectural photography and the disconnection between image and reality in the digital age.
